Read as much as you can, write as much as you can, find your own style, listen to constructive criticism, but most importantly write the things you want to write.

I think the thing I like best about being a writer is having almost complete control over the world you create.

I'm lucky enough not to have suffered writers block much during my career. If i'm struggling with ideas or trying to figure out where the story should go next, I tend to go out running, as I find that helps me think more clearly.
