Write! Don't aspire--do! Every day could be your day to start that breakthrough novel, so don't put it off. Surround yourself with encouragers, including other authors. Learn from everyone you meet and everything you do. Everyone has at least one great book inside. Find yours and go for it.

(view spoiler)[As I reviewed various favorites I realized that all couples in fiction are plagued by horrible travails and complicated plot situations--a characteristic of fiction. I thought of Scarlett and Ashley, Scarlett and Rhett, King Arthur and Guinevere and Lancelot, Romeo and Juliet. I finally settled on Rick and Ilsa from "Casablanca," even though it isn't a book, and even though they don't end up together in the end. Their love met the test of time and separation, and it is triumphant at the end, even though they say goodbye to each other. (hide spoiler)]

When my sheepdog puppy Nana first came to live with us, she was full of mischief, a real whirlwind. To survive, I started a list of her shenanigans, and one day I realized that it would be the basis for a really fun picture book! What really makes it fun is that Nana tells the story herself.
