Ian Jarvis The Bible. Oh, wait a moment - that was another writer. As with most authors, the book you're most proud of is usually the last one you wrote, so in my case, Badda Moon Rising.
Ian Jarvis Hello there Joyce
It's great to speak to another Frank fan. Although I'm uncertain as to how genuine his photographs actually were, he was an absolutely brilliant character and I really liked the man. How fantastic that you became the owner of his actual campervan. A similar freelance 'creature hunter' named Steve Feltham has been camped by the loch for many years, but although he's a very nice guy, he doesn't have that Frank Searle sparkle.
Thanks for getting in touch and very best wishes
Ian
Ian Jarvis Lisa took her new boyfriend to her isolated country home to meet her family. They found him delicious, although his screams were quite shrill and piercing.
Ian Jarvis It would be great to visit Middle Earth in the Lord of the Rings. Being six feet, two, the Hobbits would look up to me (literally) and I could visit Mordor to bring the sweet word of Jesus to Sauron. A bit of Bible study would help him to see the error of his ways and stop being such a dick.
Ian Jarvis Not so much a couple in the accepted sense, but a couple nonetheless – Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. Before I read the books, I grew up with the old movies starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. Jeremy Brett was the best and most accurate portrayal of Holmes, but my heart will always belong to this earlier pair, although why the genius detective would have Bruce’s character assisting him is a bigger mystery than any of his cases. Bumbling and dafter than a brush, Bruce’s Watson would make a wonderful friend, but he wouldn’t be your first choice as an ally when facing Moriarty. As a boy, I loved the idea that these two friends lived together and shared so many adventures. At the time I also believed Morecambe and Wise lived together too, just like Laurel and Hardy before them, which says something about my age (or possibly my intelligence). Reading all the Conan Doyle books as an adult changed my perception of the characters, but they still remain my favourite fictional couple.
As for a male / female couple, I’ve always had a fondness for Daphne du Maurier’s novel Rebecca. Maxim de Winter and his unnamed bride aren’t your typical couple and I think that’s what drew me to these characters. I love the way the relationship slowly builds on fear, stress and a host of other emotions over a dark background of murder.
I like it dark.
Ian Jarvis The second novel in the Bernie Quist series, the Music of Sound.
A contemporary Sherlock Holmes, Bernie Quist operates as a consultant detective from Baker Avenue in the city of York. His personality and deductive methods resemble the celebrated sleuth and his assistant is named Watson, although this Watson is a youth from the Grimpen housing estate and he's definitely no doctor. The mismatched duo take on bizarre cases which invariably lead into the realms of the supernatural, a shadowy world Quist is all too familiar with.
Their friend Rex Grant has disappeared from an Edinburgh hotel. He vanished without paying the bill, but the police seem more concerned with the murdered girl in his room. Quist and Watson are intrigued by Rex’s connection to the superstar singer Ligeia and the lethal mercenary soldiers who act as her management team. Irana Adler heads the squad – a female Colonel who doesn’t take kindly to being investigated – and Quist is amazed to discover that Laurel and Hardy are part of her team, which is not only surprising, but pretty much impossible.
Something very peculiar is going on and Ligeia’s musical voice isn’t quite as sweet as it sounds.
Ian Jarvis The several large houses, the yacht moored off Crete and, after I wake, the first morning cup of filter coffee
Ian Jarvis I usually ring Dyno-Rod
