"Arrows of Darkness" follows events soon after our first book, "The Hunter, the Bear, and the Seventh Sister." In the second book, Jackson returns to Arcas hoping to find peace away from his collapsing family, but he quickly realizes that the world of endless light can’t fight the darkness growing within. The biggest new idea came through our villain, Sephdar. He is a star in the constellation Sagittarius that means "violent archer." Between the violent archer and the "arrow" constellation, we thought the name "Arrows of Darkness" was fitting for this darker adventure.

Can anything be grander than creating worlds and cultures and heroes? It gives you a small sense of how God must feel about His creation.

Our characters, places, and beasts in Arcas are all inspired by the stars in some form. Studying the stars through mythology, astronomy, art, and photos taken of deep space objects gives us plenty of inspiring material. The universe is an amazing place with wonders galore!

Though many people think of writing as a solo sport, that definitely has not been our experience! Besides writing as a duo, we also reach out to a close group of friends and family throughout the process. Some help us with editing; some just encourage us to continue to writing and ask us frequently about our progress. It’s a powerful thing to surround yourself with people who support you, challenge you, and encourage you. Find those people in your life and hold on to them!

We are currently working on our 3rd book in the World of Arcas series where our heroes have to figure out how to deal with the mess at the end of book 2. We also have exciting ideas of future stories that would awaken the heroes and wars from ages past, or we could end up extending Jackson’s story beyond the trilogy arc. We also have story ideas outside of fantasy, but we are definitely going to finish Jackson’s escapades before we tackle any new realms! Nevertheless, the star-studded world of Arcas will probably always be beckoning us back for just one more adventure...

One of the great things about writing as a couple is that we usually don’t have writer’s block at the same time. When one reaches a blank spot, the other steps in and drives the plot for a while. We have also found it helpful to get a babysitter, get out of the house, and brainstorm together at a restaurant with the stimulating power of good food!
