Before my mother passed away there was some mention of adoption. Not of me but perhaps of her - but she didn't want to talk about it. And that would be my personal mystery.

Currently I am working on a suspense novel involving an awkward situation when the wife of a heart donor accidently discovers the reciprient. Of course there is a drug lord involved, some crooked police, and someone with an ulterior motive who started the whole thing rolling.

Write the story you want to tell. Write what you want to write - doesn't matter if it is literary or pulp fiction. It should be a joy to write it. You should look forward to doing that - not that it isn't going to be hard work some days.

For me it is two fold. One is getting immersed in these characters that you have created and come to know so well, and the other is finally holding that freshly minted copy of the book in you hands.

I tend to read several pages or the chapter before what I need to write. It draws me back into the story and tends to get me started. If I am really stuck I will force myself to start writing the next scene - whether I think it is going to work or not - because you can always change it. After the first few lines it might just trigger a new idea. I also have the whole story pretty much blocked out so that I know what is next - and therefore don't have any excuses!
