Katherine Harbour Hi Taryn,
Funny you should ask, I was just about to update on my Goodreads blog. The Sherlock Holmes inspired manuscript has been put on hold. I'm currently revising a contemporary neo-noir heist novel with supernatural elements for my agent:)
Thank you so much for your kind words for the Night and Nothing series!
Katherine Harbour Hi Summer! Thank you so much for loving Night and Nothing. I have been writing, but I haven't quite written the exact thing publishers are seeking at the moment. My current manuscript with my agent is called The Beautiful Beasts and is about a gang of international thieves, with unique abilities, in contemporary California. Hopefully, this will be my next series, fingers crossed:)
I'll keep posted on my Goodreads blog!
Katherine Harbour The girl, who wanted some small, cruel wish granted, approached the shrine and its stone angel, a sexless beauty pierced by candlelight. When she kissed its cold mouth, the angel's lips parted, its scream turning her into the monster she'd always been.
Katherine Harbour I love that song! And, you're right, it is perfect for that series :)
Thank you, Barbara
Katherine Harbour Witchy Eye by D.J. Butler, The Waking Land by Callie Bates, The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich, Gilded Cage by Vic James, Lost Boy by Christina Henry, The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter by Theodora Goss, The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee, Wicked Like a Wildfire by Lana Popovic
Katherine Harbour There are 2!
1) I'd love to find out who my greatgrandmother's family was in the Phillipines.

2) I'd like to know what I saw with a group of my friends when we were kids, a black shape in a gown gliding up towards my old abandoned grade school. (Shiver) Or maybe not.
Katherine Harbour Thank you, Tynan! I've started a new series, which will hopefully find its way out into the world. The inspirations for this series were Sherlock Holmes and Penny Dreadful. Three young people meet on a bridge one night and discover that a criminal organization with supernatural origins has been responsible for tragedies in each of their lives...
Katherine Harbour I love the idea of a hidden world and a race of spirits only certain people can see. The inspiration came from stories and accounts of faeries from Celtic folklore, where the faeries sometimes mimic the lives of mortals and their kingdoms exist within ruins and caves. If you like, you can read these stories in the book Visions and Beliefs in the West of Ireland by Lady Gregory.
Thank you so much for pre-ordering Nettle King!
Katherine Harbour At the last minute, I was asked to change the name of a character. Her name was Jane Ivy and I changed it to Jane Emory--after the final edits were sent in. Someone (not my editor!) used autocorrect to change it and didn't check afterwards. So every 'ivy' became 'Emory'. It's been corrected in the trade paperback and I think the ebook. I hope it didn't distract too much. I had tried so much to make it perfect, but things happen when you're working with a team.
Katherine Harbour Hi Aisha! Harper Voyager decided to publish all 3 Nothing and Night books as trade paperbacks because of the price issue, since they also want a YA audience and a YA hardcover is usually priced at $17.99, whereas Harper Voyager's HCs are all $24.99 and up and their trade paperbacks are $17.99.
Katherine Harbour That's a good question! It's a publisher typo. There was a character named Jane Ivy, whose name was changed at the last minute to Jane Emory. Unfortunately, whoever did the corrections at the publisher simply autocorrected 'ivy' to 'Emory'. The paperback version of Thorn Jack and any ebook versions will be corrected. And I've made sure that doesn't happen with Briar Queen! And thank you for loving the book, despite that!
Katherine Harbour The idea for Thorn Jack originally came from the ballad Tam Lin. The second inspiration, later on, was a book written in the 1920s called Visions and Beliefs in the West of Ireland, a collection of fairy folklore and reports by Lady Gregory and W.B. Yeats.
Katherine Harbour I listen to music, visit the library and browse through all kinds of non-fiction books and magazines. Or I'll watch a movie or visit the websites of my favorite artists. Since I write fantasy, anything can really inspire me.
Katherine Harbour I promise I'll try to make a soundtrack! I'll post it here, on my Goodreads blog. So far, for the second book, I've listed White Winter Hymnal and Terrible Love by Birdy, House on a Hill by The Pretty Reckless, I Know Places by Lykke Li, Silhouette by Owl City, and Keep the Streets Empty for Me by Fever Ray.
Katherine Harbour My advice for aspiring writers is write about what you love, what you're fascinated by, be adventurous about it, and take any reasonable criticism as a way to improve.
Katherine Harbour The best thing about being a writer is losing yourself in whatever world you're creating.
Katherine Harbour I'm revising the Thorn Jack sequel, Briar Queen, in which Finn and Jack must travel to the Ghostlands after a vengeful Fata known as the Wolf comes to Fair Hollow and reveals a secret about Finn's sister, who died a year ago. Christie and Sylvie follow Finn and Jack, with disastrous consequences, and that moth key becomes a crucial part of the story as a mysterious young man makes his appearance.
Katherine Harbour I read books on ancient history, botany, anything non-fiction that might give me ideas. I listen to music or skim through interesting magazines. It also helps to rest sometimes, to get away, and come back more energized.
