Lia Michaels I knit until my fingers fall off.
I went through over a year where I couldn't write anything that made sense so I cranked out prayer shawls like nobody's business and messy bun hats.
LOL!
Lia Michaels Having people you've never met before tell you they love your work or even just one character. I even love it when they tell me they hate one of my characters because that means I did my job portraying them as screwed up and convoluted mysteries who bring out emotion from the readers.
Lia Michaels Keep writing. Even if you only put down a sentence or two in a journal, do it. Those bits and pieces will turn into a full body of work...or maybe the catalyst for more than one.

Write what your characters dictate to you FIRST and then see what genre it fits into. If you try to force yourself into a specific mold, you'll have a hell of a time. Ask my editor. She'll tell you flat out I can write easier as Lia then I can as Stephanie Ryan.
Lia Michaels Hearts on Fire (Wildfire Romance book 5) just released so I'm not actively scribbling away on the next for this pen name. For those of you who don't know, I'm one of six pen names for Tammy Dennings Maggy. So when I say I'm not working on something specific now, I mean as Lia. I am working on the sixth book in the Wildfire series called Rain. That one is under Tammy. It's what I call a cross over/stand alone book as it's not part of the core five in the Wildfire books, but it has characters visiting from my other books.

Derek Quartermarsh from the For the Love of Quinn books (Now and Forever series) had a cameo in Hearts. I can't help bringing over characters from my other books if the story fits.

Once Rain is published (before the end of July!), I'm returning to the Candy Kisses Gang and finishing up their full story.
Lia Michaels My brain never shuts off. I can be in the car listening to the radio and I can picture characters interacting while the song is playing around THEM. I don't have a problem with the story lines but the actual sit down and write part that derails me. Once I get back into the groove, then it's game on!
Lia Michaels author/editor friend wanted to work on a shared world project together set in Ouray, Colorado during wildfire season. Her request sent me combing through my idea list and the characters from Hearts on Fire waved me over to their part of the pool. I dove in and have had a blast ever since.
