Ankush Chopra I have been studying disruption for a long time. My first book came out of years of research on this topic. But I kept running into managers who are just starting out on this subject.

I also found that there is a need for a simpler book that can help people grasp the concept of disruption fast.

Since there wasn't a book that could fill this gap, I decided to write one.

Ankush Chopra I just finished a major research project that was funded by the Swiss government. In that project, I studied why companies often do a bad job at innovation. I studied over 100 companies in the US and Europe to find answers.

Since that was a basic research project, I am working on furthering it with applied research. It will become a book.

Other than that, I am also writing another book on how to drive effective innovation in organizations.
Ankush Chopra I have just two pieces of advice for someone who wants to write a lot.
First, keep focused on one area of writing rather than changing your topic again and again. There is a lesson to be learnt by going over the big hump when you feel you have nothing more to write on a topic. When you feel absolutely empty. I cannot articulate that lesson in words because after you deal with that stage, you just know that you can keep writing any amount. That you will never run out of ideas.

Second, write same time every day. Even if you write just 150 words just write. It makes a big difference.

I can go on and on about this subject but if I go back to my younger self, aspiring to write books, these two would be the best pieces of advice I would give myself.
Ankush Chopra I get to writing only after all thinking and outlining is finished. At that stage, writing is just converting an outline to text. Due to this workflow, I usually don't face a writer's block.
The equivalent of writer's block that I face is to not start the outlining process. Breaking up the topic into smaller pieces helps me get over this hurdle most of the time.
