Keith Soares The best thing about being a writer is having someone say they really felt your story come alive. I've had people say they almost felt as if my characters had become their friends during the course of reading. That's pretty remarkable. And in my stories, people die from time to time. To have a reader tell you not only that they cared about your characters, but they were truly saddened when a character died... Well, I don't feel good about upsetting readers with a death, but it is amazing to hear the impact on people's feelings.
Keith Soares My most recent book is not quite out yet - in editing as of this writing - but its a sort of new-fangled superhero origin story title For I Could Lift My Finger and Black Out the Sun.

It came from pondering the origin of superheroes like Superman, who is after all, an alien. But why does Superman, the alien life form, look identical to a human? Does that make any sense? What other form might a super-powered alien take? And what would its intentions be? Why would it want to preserve mankind, if it indeed wanted to do such a thing?

And the conclusion I came to was that this alien life form, even with super powers, would have only one overriding desire: self-preservation. If protecting humans preserves its life, then that's what it will do.

But what would it look like, and how would it get here? Those were fun puzzles to figure out.
Keith Soares A few things. I have a new fantasy saga called White Fire. For anyone who has read my collection The Fingers of the Colossus, White Fire is the continuation of the tale of Huldrych the almost-mage from the short story "Black Fire." I have a couple other novels planned as well. And, if that wasn't enough, I've begun my first collaborative novel, which is very exciting. Bouncing ideas back and forth is a fun and creative way to develop a story.
