L.E. Carmichael Thanks so much, Cheryl! Sorry to hear about the Cornell link (the internet - always moving around). Try this one: http://ansci.illinois.edu/labs/kukeko...

As for adult books, there were none when I was researching Fox Talk, but there is one now! https://www.amazon.com/How-Tame-Fox-B...

L.E. Carmichael Westley and Buttercup. Fezzik and Inigo run a close second, because they have such a great friendship!
L.E. Carmichael I often work with publishers who need books on particular topics. But the ideas for Fox Talk and Fuzzy Forensics both came out of my former life as a scientist. Fox Talk was inspired by an amazing experiment I read about in graduate school, and Fuzzy Forensics is about a wildlife crime I helped investigate.

As for where the idea for my novel came from - no idea! Instead of a single source, it's more like a snowball, picking up inspiration from lots of different sources and building as it goes.
L.E. Carmichael Inspiration is everywhere. It gets me started on a project, but it won't get me to finished. More often than not, finishing comes down to discipline (and stubbornness). Writing is a lot of fun, but it's definitely not easy.
L.E. Carmichael My first YA fantasy novel. And a hybrid project - half science, half folklore. Very excited about both.
L.E. Carmichael Be curious! Ask questions, investigate, cultivate your sense of wonder. You never know where inspiration will come from.

And if you can manage it, a supportive spouse with a health care plan will make all the difference. :D
L.E. Carmichael Going to work in my pyjamas. :D

Seriously? The freedom to learn about anything that interests me, and the challenge of figuring out how to make it interesting to kids.
