R. Leib Charlie Ullnut and Rose Sayer from "The African Queen". Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn breathed life into these broken and heartwarming characters.
R. Leib We will give it a try. There will have to be enough authors in the Genre Specific Review Groups that write middle grade fiction to fill a review group (6). If you know of some who are not members, you might invite them to join.
R. Leib I struggle with writing all the time. Making time to write. Finding the right words. Keeping all the details straight. How much should I tell, and how much should I leave to be read between the lines? I am at the end of my life. Writing is the only reason for me to continue on.
R. Leib The best experience for a writer is when someone you do not know is touched (emotionally or intellectually) by what you have written. I have experienced this a few times, and it never gets old.
R. Leib It varies quite a bit. Ideas can start to form at any time. If I am away from my computer or pencil and paper, there is a physical division between thought and recording it. If the idea needs refining, a conceptual distance exists that must be bridged. One idea originated in a nightmare I had decades ago. I am still refining it into a complete story in my mind.
R. Leib I do not know if I have ever had writer's block. My biggest problem is getting myself to buckle down and do the writing. Once I am into the story, that is where I am and time has no meaning.
R. Leib When someone you do not know gets what you are saying in your writing. To have touched another's heart and mind is to be immortal.
R. Leib Don't give up. Writing can be a very discouraging avocation. I have never been successful as a writer. If you don't write for yourself, then whatever reason you write is not worth it. There are stories in me that want out, and writing is how I release them.
R. Leib One of the reviews of "The Negative's Tale" ended with a request for a sequel. I had thought of writing more stories involving characters from "The Negative's Tale", but none that I would consider a sequel. While thinking about this request, the central theme for a real sequel occurred to me. It is called the "Tourist of Infinity". Allon Wu, Mitchell Ebberhaus, Lovey Wu, Jan Lindermann, and Jama Elfbrae are all back and embroiled in another space-based mystery. I have been working on it for about a year, and the first draft is almost done. Then it is on to rewriting.
R. Leib There are so many stories in my head that I will never be able to write them all during what is left of my life. I want to share these stories and the characters that live in them, and writing is the only way I know how to do this.
R. Leib I get my ideas from a variety of sources. I often think of "what if" questions based on the fiction and non-fiction I read. These lead to ideas that I incorporate into my writing. The speculative science in "The Negative's Tale" is all based on current knowledge and theory.
