Hey Mel - sorry, I just saw this! Thanks for reading. I'm working on a sixth one on and off, so Blake will definitely be back at some point

Hi Ann - great question! I think there's a bit of me in all of the characters, but I've never put a character in who was exactly like me. Mainly because I would be very boring as a character in a thriller, since I would immediately call the police and try to stay out of trouble!

Hi Christophe, bedankt voor het lezen! (Did I get that right?)
I don't think Luitingh Sijthoff have picked up the rights for Don't Look For Me or Presumed Dead yet, but if you want to ask them I'm sure it wouldn't hurt! http://www.lsamsterdam.nl/contact/

I go and do something else for a while - read, see a movie, go for a walk. A long walk is a really good way to clear the cobwebs.
But at the end of the day, the only way to break out of a block is to write, get the words down on the page, even if they suck.
My motto: you can fix everything in the next draft.

Try to write every day, even if it's only a few hundred words.
Read good books to learn from the best; read less good books to learn what not to do.
Finish things. You can't tell how good something is until it exists. Even if it doesn't work, you can work miracles once you have that first draft.

The initial idea for The Killing Season was to pit two equally matched adversaries against one another. A hunter who can find anybody versus a lone wolf who’s adept at evading capture. I was interested in this idea of a very personal one-on-one contest amidst the backdrop of a massive multi-agency manhunt. The rest of the plot developed from that.
