I remember my inspiration very well... my husband and I were driving to the airport and he was telling me about a book he was reading called The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. It was a true account of a serial killer in Chicago at the turn of the last century. He told me that this guy - HH Holmes - would go to the Chicago World's Fair every day, kidnap women, bring them back to his townhouse, torture them and murder them. Meanwhile, he had a wife and two children living at home in the Chicago suburbs. I started thinking about that wife and children. What was it like for them when he was caught? How would it impact them to learn their husband/father was a notorious serial killer? From those dark thoughts, UNLOVED was born.
As for book similar to UNLOVED, I don't know... it's a pretty unique concept. There are lots of books about men who feel rejected by society and live off-the-grid. Mia Sheridan's Archer's Voice is a favorite cross-read. Have you heard of it?

Hi, Sara! Thank you SO MUCH for reading my Blueberry Lane series. Unfortunately, as I started writing the Story Sisters, the sales of the series started to drop off, so I truncated the Storys with a double novella and decided I couldn't afford to write the Amblers or Atwells (who would have had a whole new series - the three girl cousins in Philly and the boys in Boston.) I never say never, so who knows? Maybe someday I'll go back and write the remaining stories, but I have no plans to do so right now. xo

Thanks for letting me know. Looking forward to reading! :)

Hi, Judy. I am married to Henry Regnery's grandson, George Regnery, who is Alfred Regnery's oldest son. So, I am only a Regnery via marriage, but our son is also called Henry, after his paternal great-grandfather.

Hmm. I guess you should ask a responsible adult in your life if you're old enough to read these books? Because of coarse language and graphic sexual situations, I would place a minimum age at 18. But it's really between you and your parents/guardian.

I don't doubt it! There are glitches all over the place with this one on Amazon's end. I'm on the phone now with Amazon because they're showing the book has 16 pages when it has almost 200! GAH!
I just felt really bad that you felt tricked. I don't want my readers to ever feel that way. I hope you love ARRANGE US. Big hug!!

Not indefinitely! I have 1/3 written and plan to release it in Fall 2019!

I didn't look for it. I didn't seek it out. I didn't see it coming.
One day I started writing and putting words to paper felt better and more organic than anything else I'd ever done before. And so I kept going. More because I felt utterly compelled never to stop.

Chelsea, if I had kept going, it's *possible* I would have considered a Robin Hood retelling, since there is a great M/F couple at its heart in Robin and Marion. But I think I'm going to wrap it up at 8 fairytales. Something about ending with a book called SWAN SONG just feels right.

For me, calling out the name of God (or Christ or Jesus, for that matter) is a personal choice that varies from person to person. At home, I don't use these words in vain (nor do I allow my children to) because it doesn't feel right for my personality, nor for the way I'm raising them. That said, an author is not her characters. My characters were a wounded veteran (who'd seen all manner of horror) and a reporter (who was trying very hard to shed her provincial southern roots.) I have never served nor been to a war zone. I am not southern and or a reporter either. These are made-up characters. And for these characters, invoking God, Christ or Jesus in conversation was organic. It's how they sounded in my head, and I don't "police" my characters. I write them exactly how I hear them, for better or worse. As a rule, I don't impose my personal morality on my characters or storylines. I write them as I see and hear them - only a conduit for telling their stories, without censoring. I hope that makes sense and answers your question.

SWAN SONG will be the final book in my fairytale series. So I always intended to write it last. In the meantime, I decided to add an "Aladdin-inspired" novella and a "Cinderella-inspired" novel. Those two projects will come before SWAN SONG. So, I am estimating it's release in the spring of 2019 at this point.

Hi, Mary - thank you so much for your question! The truth is that I co-produced my thirteen available audiobooks with my narrators and together we bore the cost of production with the assistance of Audible, who offered us stipends to offset the cost. About two years ago, Audible stopped offering stipends, and it became prohibitively expensive for authors to produce their own audiobooks. I had to stop producing altogether. That said, I'm thrilled to share that Tantor Media has purchased the rights to record UNLOVED, and it will be available for purchase sometime in 2018!! So, while there are no plans for DON'T SPEAK right now, sit tight - UNLOVED is coming!! xoxo

Technically....Goodreads is right and Amazon is wrong. My AMF (A Modern Fairytale) books are a COLLECTION, not a SERIES, because each book is wholly unrelated to the others. I have used fairytales as a theme, but I have not interwoven the characters. So, technically, Amazon shouldn't be grouping them as a "series," but that said...I don't believe they have an application for "collection" yet so it's the best they can do. THANK YOU for loving "The Vixen and the Vet." It's a fan favorite, for sure!

Hi, Sonia...Thank you so much for your question! :) When I first started writing my modern fairytales, I had a notion that they would adopt a "Southern Gothic" style because it felt fitting for a fairytale. The southern US is seeped in tradition, with folktales and fairytales of its own, and a rich cultural history. So, I purposely wrote the first five of my fairytales in the south, drawing on local legends, lore, accent and behavior to imbue the novels with a grounded, yet otherworldly, feeling. That said, my 6th fairytale, SHEAR HEAVEN (Rapunzel), was written in New York City and my 7th, FRAGMENTS OF ASH (Cinderella), will take place primarily in New York state. So, I am falling away from my original inkling of "new" south fairytales.... though the original five will always retain something of an otherworldly feeling, drawn, in part at least, from location.

Hi, Valerie! You are in luck! Bidding on Brooks is one of 16 books in that series! Try Preston, Cameron and Christopher next to finish off the Winslows, and then you can easily slide over to the Englishes, Rousseus or Storys!! Happy reading!

Hey, Anna! AFTER WE BREAK is available right now using the Radish app (you can get it at the Samsung, iTunes, etc) app store and start reading right away - it's mostly free at this point except for the last few chapters! It will be available again on e-reader retailers sometime this summer!

Oh, my gosh! I don't know. I never named him in my head. But you know? I think that he definitely would have been named for Holden's dad. That sounds exactly right to me. xo

Actually, the fifth book in the series is available for pre-order on Kobo too. Book 2-4 will return to Kobo in April or May for purchase.
