I am currently working on book two in the Faith Flores Science Mystery series. This book has a new mystery, but many of the same characters. Faith and Jesse's arc continues, as Faith travels to New Mexico for an internship in a research lab.

I was watching a documentary on the human genome project and I learned that (at the time) scientists could patent genes they discovered, which meant, they could patent parts of my body! So if someone needed a genetic test for a mutation, a scientist with the patent on that gene could charge whatever they wanted for that test. I should say that since then, the Supreme Court has ruled that genes are products of nature and cannot be patented. But back to the book... I took Steven King's advice and asked "what if" What if a scientist discovered mutation and they could patent it? What people would be most vulnerable to being tested on? I came up with heroine addicts and from there, DEATH SPIRAL came to be.
