I have always found the simplicities and profundities of the nursery rhyme and the folk tale full of raw and mysterious resonances, so in “The Book Of Bird & Bear” I set out to write a book of children’s poems for adults, hopefully tapping the roots of those resonances.

I opened the door, praying the shadow remained fixed between the hollow dark and the hard white parallelogram from the street light. Slowly, as the door swung silently in, the outside dwindled, the shadow inexorably grew.
