Jimmy Locklear I don't have this struggle very often, but usually I just do some reading in one of the several books I'm currently reading and that re-kindles my flame. I know this doesn't work for everyone, but I find going to a library or coffee shop helps me to focus on what I need to write next. For me, "writer's block" is more like a lack of focus than not knowing what to write.
Jimmy Locklear The freedom and joy I feel when I'm writing. I get lost in the world of words and thoughts. And the second best thing is getting a call or email with someone sharing how their life was enriched by what I wrote. That's awesome!
Jimmy Locklear Journal as often as you can. Share you're essays and short stories with friends.
Jimmy Locklear I have outlines for three different manuscripts currently on my computer. One is a more in-depth look at the prayers, encounters and lifestyle of Jesus. A second is a 365-day devotional book called "State of Your Heart" that includes the reflections of many people who are living by faith in all areas of their lives and sharing about their challenges and growth. And the third is a book about the loss of ambition. This would be my first foray into fiction.
Jimmy Locklear Generally, I'm inspired to write based upon my own life experiences. Sometimes that includes something I've read, a conversation or a question that someone has asked. My experiences often turn into journal entries that sometimes lead to essays or larger pieces.
Jimmy Locklear The genesis of this book was a request for me from two friends to do a prototype for potential use in a church discipleship program. When the church decided that it couldn’t expand it’s curriculum to use these devotional studies, I felt drawn to continue working on the reflections in the Gospel of St. Matthew for my own spiritual growth and to see how Jesus taught and encountered all kinds of people. Over the past handful of years I've been increasingly drawn to observing the life and style of Jesus.
