Take a walk and think about the story slowly and gently. Suddenly ideas will start to flow. Another trick is when I wake up in the morning, I lay in bed with my eyes closed and think about the story I'm. It really works because my mind is quiet and I can envision scenes and characters much more easily.

Primarily, to be my own boss. Second, the joy of creation. Writing a book is a magical experience for me and I have a passion about it.

It's simple: Write everyday. Set a target of so many words or so many hours to write. You can always fit it in. If you don't write because of the millions of reasons not to, you will never make it. Push!

I have just finished a book which is a journal written in 1966-1967 of my days in Vietnam. I wrote it from letters and my own recollections. It will go to print this next week. It's called "Vietnam Diary, 1966 -1967" Then I will return to my first book, "The Golden Storm" and continue that series which is projected to be 8 books long.

My favorite author when I was in college was Ernest Hemingway. He wrote a non-fiction essay advising the best route to become a good writer. His suggestion was to experience war. So I joined the Marine Corps in 1966, went to Vietnam, was wounded, but came home alive. I was also inspired by other great authors: Dickens, Irvine Stone, James MItchner, Talbot Mundy, M. M. Kaye, Wilbur Smith, L. Ron Hubbard etc. I've always loved to read and authors have inspired me to write.
