I walk away, do other things and then come back to it. It's taken me a while to do this; but I now accept that I work in waves of activity. Sometimes there are peaks, sometimes there are troughs, don't beat yourself up if you're in a trough, give yourself time to reset and go with the flow. You'll get there, don't give up.

Sharing stories, researching random stuff and making up characters.

Write, write write. Establish a routine and just write. It doesn't matter if what you write is rubbish, no writing is ever wasted. I wrote three novels before The Bronze Box, it took me that long to write something that I felt was worth publishing.
No excuses, just write and prepare yourself for the fact that it's a long, slow process so just enjoy it.

The final part of Gabriel's Game 'The Black Knight'.
But I've already started sketching out ideas for a Young Adult fantasy series based on three unpublished books. My vision is that it will be a like 'Game of Thrones' but for young adults and with an interactive element.
I also have some ideas forming for a couple of spin off's from the Sheridan and Blake series involving minor characters who themselves have a fascinating tale to tell.
I've always got about 50 books brewing away in my brain!

That's a tough one; because it's multilayered.
I've always written, I just like writing, anything I can do to declutter my busy brain is a bonus!
I love stories; I watch movies, box sets, read widely. Writing also gives me the perfect excuse to research random things that I would otherwise have no reason to read about.
A new story idea can come from anywhere; I day dream a lot and I love getting into random conversations with people and often these things can spark ideas.
The initial concept for the Sheridan and Blake series came from visiting the Varna Archaeological museum and asking 'what if'...

Gabriel's Game is in 2 parts - Part 1: The White Queen is out now, Part 2: the Black Knight is out in 2016.
As the final book in the series, the ideas have been marinating for years. I always had a sense of where Sheridan and Blake's adventures would take them and I took my inspiration for the final story from where they led me and the loose threads from the previous two books
