D.B. Corey Watching the local news one night. They played a video of a coroner wheeling the body of a murder victim into the lab from a body transport, and I wondered, what if the coroner, or someone important to the coroner, committed the murder? What would he/could he do, to throw the police off his trail? And how could he manipulate the evidence to implicate another?
D.B. Corey I don't think I'd call it inspiration. I'd call it fun. I enjoy it, difficult as it may be.
D.B. Corey I have a novel in beta read at the moment. While I’m waiting for the impressions on that, I am working on the 2nd novel of that series. It is vigilante in theme, and has a strong female lead. I think readers will like her.
D.B. Corey There’s an old saying: What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. That is especially true with writing. New writers take rejection of their work hard. It’s personal for them. That attitude will kill a dream faster than the cyanide I used to kill victims in my first novel. Toughen your skin. LEARN from failure. It is a better teacher than success.
OH! And don't let internet-trolls dissuade you, like the two women from Boca Raton who both joined GR in September just to give my work a 2-star rating. Seems they don't agree with my politics, so they decided to punish me. So much for Freedom of Speech in Boca Raton. Petty, to say the least.
D.B. Corey Being a writer presents me with the chance to step outside everything that’s comfortable about my life; about who I am. Writing does not come easy for me, so I work at it more than the things I already know how to do. Hence, the satisfaction is greater. I liken it to anything I learned to do as a child: whistling or hitting a baseball or riding a two-wheeler. Being able to peddle down the sidewalk on my own without the training wheels and without, of course, falling over, was a huge triumph for me. The elation, the feeling of accomplishment … the rush! With writing, all of these things are new again. I never want to get so comfortable writing novels that I lose those feelings upon completing a breathtaking scene, or a creating an especially unusual character. I hope to enjoy those feelings for a very long time to come.
