This is a tough one, and I'm the first to say that other authors may have more useful information on the subject. One tactic that I use, though, is to change gears. If I'm slammed up against a particular point in the story and just can't seem to break through it, I'll drop it for a while. There are plenty of things around our little horse property that require me to think creatively and expend some physical energy. My grandma used to say, "Go outside and blow some stink off!" That's what I do- I plot for a new corral, reorganize some lumber behind the barn, or just go work with a horse. Again, this is just what works for me. Maybe you've got something else that trips your trigger, like going to the gym or painting your living room a different color. Whatever gets your mind engaged elsewhere is fine. Just step away, flex your mental and physical muscles a bit elsewhere, then come back to it. It'll click.
