Jackie Fancher There are several: First, when you hold your first book in your hands, it takes your breath away. Second, when you see your book on library shelves that's great...even greater...when it's not on the shelf. That means someone checked it out. Third, when you're in public and you see someone reading your book. Wow.
Jackie Fancher My guess is that if I wrote everyday, I would eventually have writer's block. But I don't. I write when the mood moves me. If it doesn't, I don't.
Jackie Fancher When I first considered writing, I wrote an email to one of my favorite authors, Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Her advice: Just start writing! So I did. Pick up a pen and a legal pad and start jotting thoughts down. Name your characters. Give them personalities and some physical characteristics. Choose your location. Do research to make sure you don't send readers north on an east-west street. It may end up a great novel. Or it may just be practice. But just start. Something I wish I would have done is write a date on the pages as I developed ideas.
Jackie Fancher Thunder in Her Heart had been brewing in my brain for a while. I grew up on TV westerns and always thought some day, I could marry a cowboy. And I worked in Chicago. So the two ideas merged...Anne and Theo are the result.
