My favorite author is William Gibson. I guess I'd ask him how he weaves his plots, and what his influences were, literature-wise.

I thought it would be simple to answer this question, but then I very much got to thinking about it, and I can honestly say: I don't know. I looked through my library, and couldn't find any books in which there were any successfully "together" couples. Arwen and Aragorn, in a tragic sense, or the narrator as Tyler Durden and Marla Singer, in a fucked up sort of way, but everything else was a free-for all. No couples. Or at least, not anything that responded to the moniker of coupledom. I wonder why that is.

The best thing to do is to go about your daily life without even thinking about where you are stuck. Your subconscious (or mine anyhow) always finds a way to get you past the hurdle and into interesting new territory completely by accident. I'll be doing some random thing and all of a sudden the answer will emerge, unbidden, like some sort of sea monster from the depths. It's by worrying and fretting that you stay stuck, I've found.

Like any art, it is the ability to create something that is truly and intimately yours, then sharing it with the world.

Sit down and write. Put your ideas on paper, or computer, whichever medium you prefer. Then flesh out your story, with the important turning points as references to where you want to take it. You might veer off course at some point in time, but if you have an idea of where you want to end, you have a better chance of getting there. Most of all: don't give up.

Two novels: One is a fantasy-set-in-reality type book with supernatural creatures from different cultures wreaking havoc on one man's life.
The other is the sequel to Red Nexus, taking place in very different locales, and bringing back some of the characters I loved from the first novel.

I think of what kind of trouble I can sling at my protagonist and see how he'll run with it. The fun part is sitting down and typing it out, because often I don't know what will happen until I write it.

A variety of sources, but mainly, I was living in Tokyo at the time, and thought about how an extreme version of it would look and feel.
