After Zoo on the Moon was selected for curriculum in 147 countries, I thought, WOW, one million children per year. What an opportunity to witness. So I opened myself up to the possibilities, and the book of JOB entered my head. We all face trials, adults don't always cope well, it's even harder for kids. So I thought about how I could write about Nixie, a mermaid who asks why me?

Oh God the ego...I love it when someone recognizes me as the author of that award winning children's book that was selected for curriculum. Now I haven't really figured out if it's because I'm just proud, or if I just actually have a secret desire to be famous!

If I've been working on something for a long while, and I get stuck, I usually go back to what comes naturally, taking a day to write some poetry for children.
