Lucy Adlington Yes, the acceptance of Joe/David's romance is partly wishful thinking, and yet contemporary diaries & letters do show many folk were quietly aware of queer experiences and not judgemental.
Also, yes Connie Snow most certainly hits Harlem big style (I rather imagine Joe and David heading to the US too for an arty/musical lifestyle in New York too)

Lucy Adlington Writer's block? What is that? If a crisis of confidence then I sit it out or re-read things I've already written. If a can't-write-today mood I either work through it by writing notes instead of prose, or I do something else. If a patch of prose isn't going well I ask myself "what am I actually trying to say here?"
If writer's block means stuck for ideas - forget that! There are too many ideas!
