This is an interesting question. If you've read my books, you know that even when there's romance involved, it's... well, let's just say "muted" is probably too generous of a word. This is because I don't read books for the couples. If two characters are in a relationship, that's cool, but I'd rather it not take up too much of the story line (I have, on more than one occasion, rated a book with one less star than I otherwise would've given it simply because it overdid the whole romance thing. Eg, nearly every urban fantasy novel ever written).
All that said, I think Patrick Weekes does a good job with most of the relationships in his books. His couples clearly care for each other, and show devotion and love, without overriding the main plot of the story. Their relationships also seem to make sense, being grounded in shared interests, values, and other forms of compatibility, rather than being of the "physical attraction + vague romantic notions = love" variety.
