When I have wanted to write, I have never been blocked, yet, but my writing regimen is unscheduled and casual. After I'm in to writing a new book, I spend much of my time away from the keyboard thinking about the plot and the characters, so that when I sit down to create, I have plenty to say. My best thinking time is walking in my back yard with my Shorty Jack, Zeke.

The chance to get some of the characters who have been living in my head out into the world is an important part of writing to me.. My favorite goal is trying to create believable, sympathetic characters who fight through, over, and around obstacles to maintain their hope.

Read a lot. Write a lot. If you write fiction, read things in your chosen genre, but also read how-to nonfiction books on the craft and science of writing. There is a never ending supply of advice, but don't assume it's all good. It's great to have a target audience if you want to sell books. Therefore, it's smart to write for them, but the first person you need to please and move emotionally is yourself. The most talented and the biggest selling authors receive some negative reviews. If the negative comments are usable, then try to profit from them, but remember you'll never please everyone.
