Laurel M. Sturt Well, my experience teaching in a high-poverty community in the Bronx for eleven years so outraged me, for my own therapy I simply had to write about it. Otherwise, I would surely have imploded.

Laurel M. Sturt I LOVE the adventure of chasing a story out of my head, or in nonfiction, finding the absolute best, most descriptive and evocative means of depicting what happened. Words are so rich and entertaining! And the flexibility of being able to work anywhere, for a traveler like me, is invaluable.
Laurel M. Sturt I run around the reservoir in Central Park, window shop on Madison Avenue, anything but think about the book. Just as when you're searching for a word that's on the tip of your tongue, then it pops in ONLY after you've stopped thinking about it, the subconscious can pull through in writing.
