I don't know about mystery, anymore, but I grew up in a cult. I've also written about it as I've peppered my experiences in my books, Objects in the Rearview Mirror, Still Waters, When Heaven Strikes, and Hallelujah, and on a personal blog that you can read at www.deconstructingthedread.wordpress.com (Trigger Warnings on content).

I have the third book in to the publisher now and am waiting on a contract. So, keep your fingers crossed. I really like this next installment and hope it'll be purchased. It's called, Still Waters.

The book I just submitted to my publisher was a collection of different things, idea wise. From a lake i used to visit as a kid, to the current state of LGBT affairs, to old fashioned spooky legends, etc. Keep your fingers crossed it will be published.

This question....
Okay. Here's the deal. I write what I feel. What I see. What I've been. Who I've been and what I was like. I want to give my readers something tangible. Something they can relate to. Sure, I write ghost stories, but that allows me to be fantastic in the tale and keeps the story from being hum-drum woe is me.

I am working on a novel called Borderlands with fellow author Jamie Fessenden. Its another ghost story and I am so pleased to be working with such an incredible talent as him. He pushes me to be better at my craft, as he has been here a little longer than I, and I love it. So excited to see this through.

RUN AWAY! Kidding. Write. But write from your heart. Write something that speaks to you. There is so much fluff out there, so much mind numbing 'written in the style of this,' etc. Stop.
Be different, say something, there is something in your life in your own experiences that makes or would make your story unique. Hit there, don't be afraid to get personal, don't be afraid to dust out the dark corners of your heart, you'll touch someone, I promise.

Being a writer is tough work. Its all self motivated. You don't know if your manuscript will be accepted, whether or not it will sell, whether or not it will be received well etc.
However, the best part is getting feedback, good or bad. You learn from it. And you try not to repeat a mistake and you learn to zero in on your craft.

Honestly, I step away. Some writers write through it. I can't. I have a.d.h.d. and when I try to force myself to do something, the result isn't very pretty. So, I go away, mull in over in my head until an answer pops up and then I can sit back down and go for it once again.
