"Shipwrecked" was inspired by a Pyramid Collection painting ("Castaway") of a human girl apparently demonstrating things washed up by shipwreck to mermaids. The "look" of the mermaids is much older than the concept of the story itself, and inspired by the beautiful but terrifying deep sea fish.

Inspiration comes when it comes. It could be an exhibit in a museum, a bit of trivia in an online article, an abandoned building I like the look of. Sometimes it's dreams.

I listen to music, or seek out works in a similar genre to what I'm working with, or pictures, to get me in the mindset of the story and characters I'm working with.
