Geoffrey Gudgion I used to sail every summer with an old friend. It only stopped being fun once, in a very strong tide off Alderney. A gale blew against the tide, forming a brutal sea state. It was a bit hairy until we found shelter. Not so much a 'mystery' but certainly an incident that became central to the plot of Draca (Unbound, 2020). The waves, of course, grow higher with every telling.
Geoffrey Gudgion I was sitting in the cockpit of a friend's boat, anchored in a remote estuary on England's South coast. We were drinking wine, watching the sun go down, and as the tide went out the bones of dead vessels emerged, poking up through the mud. It was very atmospheric and became the setting.
Geoffrey Gudgion I'm sketching out ideas for the 3rd book, and it's too early to share them!
Geoffrey Gudgion Hi Cora Linn, and thanks for the encouragement. Yes, I finished the next one only recently, and it's now with my agent. He's very enthusiastic, but I gather that the publishing industry moves pretty slowly over the summer months. And in case you're wondering, it's a time-slip novel, set on an English country estate that has been in the same family for over 600 years. In the 14th century, a village is swept away and a dynasty born with a terrible oath. In the present day, the Bonnevaux family have forgotten their oath, but the oath has not forgotten the Bonnevaux. There are more details on my web site, and I shall be really excited if & when this is published.
Geoffrey Gudgion All writers are aspiring. To be agented. To be published. To be well reviewed. And then to do it again, and again. I think the trick is to seek and absorb criticism, and to keep moving forwards.
Geoffrey Gudgion A large glass of wine and a lot of staring into space.
