Hi Karin,
I'm so glad you loved the book, and thank you for taking the trouble to tell me so. In our case driving back wasn't really an option because we were handing the van over to charity -- but there are certainly lots of exciting ways we could have gone, and it would have been great to go through Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan for example. I still have a hankering to see them... Having said that, we had a great train trip from Ulaanbataar to Beijing and we had a fun couple of weeks in China before flying home.
best wishes,
David

For my novel which is awaiting publication, the idea came from driving in Kazakhstan and getting lost crossing the dried up bed of the Aral Sea and realising there was a deserted island not far away which had been the centre of the Soviet Union's chemical weapons experiments. The novel is called Rendition Island. Hopefully have more news soon!.

That's hard -- I suppose I have always written in one form or another whether as a newspaper reporter from the age of 17, or my travelogue and now my novels.

My lastest novel is being considered by a publisher so I'm in limbo -- but have started the next.

When you get a positive review -- it's the best feeling in the world to know something you have written has given someone pleasure.

I'm happy to say I've never suffered from this -- probably because I haven't written enough!
