For anything that I write, I get a vague idea of where I want the story to go and I go from there. The characters sort of do what they want, within reason. Anytime I try to force a story out, it doesn't work. To me, it's really easy to see the times I had to force something, rather than just let it flow.

Don't make the same mistake I did when I published my first book. Build a fan base first, of friends, and people with the same interests, otherwise it is extremely hard to get your work off the ground.
Also, it takes an army of people to make a book something worth reading. I tried doing all of it myself, and I don't think the end result was nearly as good as it could have been.
I also listened to what other people thought I should add, therefore I made my first book boring as hell, with too much backstory and way to much lead.
Trust your story is good, and definitely find an editor.
