C. Kuiper For anything that I write, I get a vague idea of where I want the story to go and I go from there. The characters sort of do what they want, within reason. Anytime I try to force a story out, it doesn't work. To me, it's really easy to see the times I had to force something, rather than just let it flow.
C. Kuiper I read, and then read some more.
Or I clean. Or go to the gym. Really anything active that is repetitive and lets my mind wander really gets the creative juices flowing.
C. Kuiper I get to make up my own hours. It's entirely up to me whether I meet my own deadlines or not. It gives me the freedom to stay home for my family, but at the same time, do what I love.
C. Kuiper Don't make the same mistake I did when I published my first book. Build a fan base first, of friends, and people with the same interests, otherwise it is extremely hard to get your work off the ground.
Also, it takes an army of people to make a book something worth reading. I tried doing all of it myself, and I don't think the end result was nearly as good as it could have been.
I also listened to what other people thought I should add, therefore I made my first book boring as hell, with too much backstory and way to much lead.
Trust your story is good, and definitely find an editor.
C. Kuiper I am working on Call of Gods, Book 3 of the Skylar Benson series. As well as The Demon's Blood, Book 3 of the Praelia Noctis series. And also Bump in the Night, a new series called Monster Hunt.
C. Kuiper Stories just pop in my head. I'll be looking for a book to read, and I'll think "Oh, I'd read that." So, I write it.
Or I'll take a nap, if my kids will let me. I always seem to have the best ideas right when I'm going to sleep.
