Jaymie Simmon I'm working on a sequel to The God Gene. A social satire in the same vein as its award-winning precursor, the story picks four years after The God Gene ends. It is again presidential election season, and the American electorate is fed up with the two brainless panderers on the ballot. Voter apathy is at an all-time high, when someone comes up with the idea to launch a write-in campaign to elect anonymous blogger The Starry Messenger President of the United States. With just a few weeks left until the election, TV reporter Ron Vaniere sees the crazy idea as a ratings bonanza, just as he had Rosalind Evans's "discovery" of the God Gene four years earlier. With Vaniere egging them on, voters rally, and Starry begins to surge in the polls even though no one, not a single soul, knows who the mysterious blogger really is. In his blog, The Starry Messenger urges voters to come to their senses, but the unlikely social experiment soon gets out of hand. The result is a smash-up of selfish ambition, patriotic fervor, and civil disobedience.
