I could answer this in all kinds of ways; everything from the wayward intensity of Cathy and Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights to the unspoken intensity (and passion!) of the 'non-couple' in Wong Kar-Wai's In The Mood For Love. But really, the truth is - and how could it be any other way? - my favourite fictional couple are Clancy and Lena of The Detainee Trilogy. I love the fact that they turn all their disadvantages into a perfect balance; that as a couple they have no disadvantages; that they will do whatever is necessary to survive.
