Ruth Hartman Berge I apologize for the delay. It's been hectic! I published Betty Tales through what was Kindle. It was pretty easy. I didn't partner with any organizations for the publication, but have donated several books to animal rescues and fundraisers for CH cats like Betty. They have helped publicize it for me. Parents with disabled children also like the book, but they aren't as organized a group as the animal rescues. Best wishes for publication! Please don't hesitate to ask me again - I promise it won't take me another three months!!
Ruth Hartman Berge I was fortunate enough to meet Prudy Taylor Board who became my friend and mentor. I begged her to give it to me straight--no holding back. Honest and thorough feedback. It has helped tremendously. You can do the same thing with a good critique group and beta readers. Find some people who will hold your feet to the fire. You want to be held accountable by at least one published author and some honest, and kind, fellow writers.
Ruth Hartman Berge I really enjoy speaking with my readers. I speak at a lot of local events and get a kick out of seeing people laugh where I wanted them to in a story. With Betty Tales, I absolutely love speaking with elementary school children. By the end of my talk, they're up yelling "Climb those stairs!" Even better, the stories I get back from the teachers shows how a little, tiny book can make a huge difference in a child's life.
Ruth Hartman Berge Fortunately, I haven't had that problem yet. It'll happen one day, though. No one escapes!
Ruth Hartman Berge Usually something just hits me. Someone says something; I see a news article or headline; or something just pops in my head.
Ruth Hartman Berge My first fiction novel. A murder mystery based in The Bahamas and Palm Beach County. Two divorcee's take their first vacation in five years and after finding a dead body, murder and mayhem ensue.
Ruth Hartman Berge I had some great little memories about growing up in the northern Palm Beach County, Florida area and wanted to write them. Unfortunately, I had an idyllic childhood for the most part, and I thought the stories might be kind of boring. I decided to add in the history of the people and places I remember. I didn't know nearly as much as I thought I did and have loved learning the background.
