Right now, "After the Fall" by Noah Hawley, The "North Water" by Ian McGuire and "War and Turpentine" by Stefan Hertmans,,, I rely on my oldest son for recommendations. He's brilliant and very well read. what about you?

I am not a true believer in writer's block but one way I guard against it happening is by working on several projects at once. More than one novel, my blogs or articles I've been asked to submit... even an occasional foray into poetry. I find that these keep me alert and interested. I also am generous with myself. When I finish a project I take a few weeks off and "smell the roses!"

Seeing and hearing the pleasure and enjoyment that my novels have brought to my readers. Talking with readers and aspiring writers about writing and the process. I often use the JFK's quote about the Peace Corps... "Writing is... the toughest job you'll ever love." Or it has been for me!

Get good training... if not formal from college or university then take advantage of the many workshops and offerings of many of your local writing organizations (MWA, RWA, SinC, etc.). But beyond that NEVER LOSE FAITH! Keep on submitting. In today's more liberal writing marketplace there are many legit, quality presses to whom you can submit w/o agent representation.

I have just finished my fifth novel, titled Chrysalis. It is an intense romantic thriller that has several different plot lines I develop and eventually meet in one final confrontation. My heroine is a champion Show Jumper (equestrian) my hero an Ivy-League football icon. Two other characters... both ex-convicts, play an intrinsic role in the story... no more less I give a spoiler away!

I am an observer... by that I mean that I am a people and situation watcher. I get my ideas from watching people and how they interact. Then I postulate an idea or concept and expand on that basic idea to bring a novel to fruition.

I have a musical background and studied at Boston's New England Conservatory. I thought based on the new interest in music and musical theatre that this might be an interesting novel idea.
