Some of the memories of my growing up during a dictatorship were quite strange, and some surprising similarities having emerged between that regime and some socio-political aspects of my chosen country of residence... Thus came the idea of a memoir that would capture the pre- and post-anticommunist revolution period, with chapters that ponder on certain universally detectable tendencies in modern societies, regardless of the very different social or political systems.
