I have written in the somewhat crowded girl puberty space for many years. Yet parents of boys kept emailing, calling, writing, asking for boy content. Raising my own son was the straw that broke the camel's back. I recognized that there isn't just am imbalance in the volume of content available for boys, there's an imbalance in the entire conversation. Why should we leave our boys out? Why should we disempower them by not providing the information and conversations about health, wellness and body changes that they need - just as much as girls do . And so I wrote Guy Stuff.

One of my partners in my practice wrote a book and asked me to read it before submission. As I read it, I was hounded by the thought: I can do that! In hindsight, my confidence was a byproduct of my youth - there was no reason I thought I should become a writer (no formal training, not time). But thank goodness for that grandiosity of youth.

For me, it's the ability to provide medical information one-to-many. When I was a doctor in an office, I had amazing one-to-one conversations. But invoking the written word as a megaphone has been awesome.

I usually start working on a new idea, often entirely unrelated. Sometimes the two - the blocked project and the reaction project - meld in the end. But more often than not, I am suddenly working on two projects instead of one.It's a form of distraction therapy, I suppose.
