My two most recent book releases are children's books--The Princess Twins Collection of four stories and Bedtime in the Southwest Board Book. We don't have twins in my family, but I do have a granddaughter who collected anything princessy. My grandchildren inspired the desert critters' antics for avoiding bedtime in Bedtime in the Southwest.

Generally, as a freelance writer, I can: 1) Set my own hours. 2) Wear yoga pants and a t-shirt to the office. 3) Daydream while I waltz in and out of creative expression.

I'm finishing Hallelujah Anyway by Anne Lamott. My stack includes Broken for Good by Rebecca Rene Jones, Lead Like Jesus (Revisited) by Ken Blanchard, The War of Art by Steven Pressfield, and Whispers of Rest by Bonnie Gray. Lots of nonfiction this summer.

Usually, I write first. If we wait for inspiration the cursor may remain still and blinking. That said, pre-writing (daydreaming and note-taking) and a welcoming environment goes a long way.

I try to determine the cause.
Fatigue, I take a nap to give my brain a rest.
Tired of sitting, I go for a brisk walk to get the blood pumping.
Don't know the character well enough to know what she'll do next, I interview her.
Feeling stuck, I'll try changing the point of view character, the setting for the scene, or up the stakes in the conflict.
