I loved to read as a girls. My mother walked me EVERY weekend to the Oakman Parkman branch of Detroit’s public libraries.
All the books I grew up reading only had White characters and I longed to read a story about a girl like me. After reading Ghost in The Mirror, I decided to write I story, starring myself and a prince named Sergio- one of the members of Menudo. I was 12 years old when I wrote this adventure story that carried me into a magical realm to ‘save the day’ with powers I did not know I had using magical antiques in our house- The Crossover. The book was lost after my family lost our home. Everyone remembered ‘seeing it’, but no one retrieved it.
With the encouragement of my daughter, I wrote as much as I could from memory. She loved the HEART of it. To fill in the missing body, I relied on my childhood memories and what I longed for in a story.
