Adam Hardaker The seat next to you is always empty.
But when you glance sideways, it’s never really empty at all.
Adam Hardaker I’d go to Anfield… but only in an alternate universe where Everton win every single derby by three clear goals. In all seriousness though, I’d probably choose something like Middle Earth - not to fight dragons, but to sit in The Shire, have a pint, and listen to people tell stories. That’s the part of fiction that grabs me: ordinary folk doing extraordinary things.
Adam Hardaker This summer I’ve been dipping into a mix: a couple of social care memoirs, some gritty northern fiction, and always something football-related (because Everton never leave my head, even in the off-season). I like books that blur the line between community, resilience, and a bit of humour - the same mix that keeps me going in real life.
Adam Hardaker I think the biggest mystery is how ordinary routines - football matches, walking the same streets, buying chips from the same chippy - can suddenly carry so much weight when someone you love isn’t there anymore. The mystery for me is how grief sneaks into the everyday and changes the meaning of the smallest things. That’s the kind of story I find myself writing.
