Ann Goering I go to dinner with my husband and we brainstorm together, or I take the rest of the day off and play with my kids at the park. If that doesn't help, we jump in the car and drive somewhere. I've never gotten past the 15 hour mark on a road trip without having worked out whatever struggle was keeping me from being able to move forward.
Ann Goering There are so many things. Truly. From a career standpoint, it lets me be home with my littles. That's an incredible gift. From a personal standpoint, it truly is like the music in my soul. I never feel more alive than when I'm writing. It helps me process life, it gives me a way to connect with humanity, and it allows me the opportunity to contribute something lasting to the world around me.
Ann Goering I'm currently in the process of finishing my series, 'The Shideezhi Collection.' Book I, "Up From the Ash Heap" came out more than five years ago, and the next book, "By the Creek of Harod" is way past due. I'm working on finishing it, and then will look toward the last book in the series, "By the Beat of a Fool's Drum."
Ann Goering I think life is an inspiration...motherhood...friendship...love... But I find it's impossible to go on a road trip with my little crew and not feel compelled to write. Crossing the vastness of the plains, climbing the heights of the Rockies or staring out into the crashing waves of the ocean gets my imagination humming and I almost feel an ache to tell stories of heartache and joy, love and tragedy. It's like the beauty of creation reminds me that there is a really big God with a really big plan and that stories are incredibly powerful.
Ann Goering I first encountered Jesus as the Bridegroom when I was in college. The message of it captivated my heart, and changed the trajectory of my life. Ever since then, I see it popping up unintentionally in my fiction writing. When I taught on it at a women's retreat and the participants asked if I would make it into a six week study, I realized the invitation was from the LORD. I started studying and writing, and 'betrothed' was the result!
