Being able to look at life in a different light. When you're a writer, everything has the potential to become a story. You notice things you never noticed before. You ask more questions. You dig a little deeper. Creating whole worlds from scratch has helped me develop an appropriation for details that I would have never noticed otherwise.

I find setting a timer helps me to focus. If I can write even a few sentences, then I can usually persuade myself to keep writing until I've met my daily word count goal (typically 500-1,000 words, though on a good day it could be more). Failing this, taking some time away from the story and working on another project entirely often helps get my creative juices flowing again.
