Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Cynthia Drew I lived for several years in Taos, NM, and thought Day of the Dead seemed a good time and Santa Fe a good place to set a mystery. Then all I had to do was come up with a story. :)

How do you get inspired to write?

Cynthia Drew My problem is turning OFF the inspiration in order to join real life once in a while. I love creating the imaginary world in my head. Sounds a little psychotic, doesn't it? Yeah, maybe...

What are you currently working on?

Cynthia Drew The sequel to Sing for the Dead--working title Nouveau Noir. Someone is poisoning the wine in Napa Valley...

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Cynthia Drew Write. Keep writing. Derriere in the chair. Every day--15 minutes. Rejection is part of the routine--understand that it's not always your work that they're rejecting--it might be something on their end. BUT you must also game your chances for being accepted--only submit to pubs for which your work is suited, and to which you think you stand a chance of being accepted. Don't think New Yorker Magazine or Granta are going to accept work from an unpublished writer. It doesn't work that way 99.9% of the time.
