Anthony Alvarado I don't know if I really believe in writer's block. Writing is like hiking. Sometimes while hiking you might encounter a stretch that is rougher, and more challenging to get through. Maybe it's a steep uphill climb and it's not pretty. So what? You never see hikers just sitting around on the side of the trail.

"Well, I got hiker's block. I'm just not feeling inspired so I stopped."

You take a breather. You drink some water. And then you just keep going.

Anthony Alvarado I love the wide open possibility of it. Every day I get some strange new idea and suddenly it becomes my job to follow that idea and find where it leads. You never know what's going to be around that corner and that keeps things exciting.
Anthony Alvarado Be true to your own weirdness. The part of your writing that is strange, distinctive, and unusual. Develop voice, because that is what will make you stand out.
Anthony Alvarado I continue to experiment with ideas about creativity and inspiration, and I take a lot of notes hoping it will turn into something.

(Also I have a top secret novel in the works. Shhh, don't tell anyone.)
Anthony Alvarado A lot of what I write about is "how to get inspired". But here is a simple 3 step process that works 90% of the time.

1. Lot's of coffee.
2. Wait patiently. Ideas are like fishes, sometimes you just have to out wait them.
3. Take a long walk.
Anthony Alvarado I think the world is a lot more weird and wild than we often think it is at first glance. D.I.Y. Magic grew out of my explorations into how creativity works, and how perception and reality intertwine.
