Beverley Carter I don't think I've ever experienced full blown writer's block. I certainly always seem to be in the situation where story ideas come to me quicker than I can write them down. I do, however, sometimes get a bit stuck mid plot. I know character A needs to bump into character B, but getting their paths to cross often takes a bit of pondering! I find mulling it over whilst walking the dog or just thinking about it over a couple of days seems to sort it out. I also find that working on something else can help. I tend to write short stories alongside my longer works, so if I'm stuck in a longer piece, I might decide to spend a few days writing up a short story instead. Usually, by the time I return to the longer work, the plot situation has clarified itself!
Beverley Carter My ideas come from all sorts of places, sometimes from the news, or a newspaper article - The Tide Will Turn was based on a true story of misadventure. Sometimes ideas come from a combination of places, Swallowfields started with a dream but also drew in ideas from the news and places I knew when growing up. A simple comment or innocent remark is often all it takes!
