Victoria J. Hyla For the most recently published, "Bartleby the Brave," it was just the thought that birds dive-bomb cars on the highway. It was the question of why in a fantastical way.

For my upcoming novel, the first of the Hotel Brisas trilogy, the inspiration was my month-long study abroad in Cuernavaca, Mexico, and the dream we had to buy a rundown hotel property and renovate it. It's kind of a "what if we had done that" tale that has blossomed into so much more.
