There are several abandoned buildings on a route where I sometimes walk with my dog. Last summer there was a fire in one of them. When I woke up the next morning, I saw a post about it on X, from the local fire department. Curious soul that I am, my dog & I walked past there. We ended up walking around the back, to see where the fire had been.
Prior to that morning, I didn't know so many buildings back there are abandoned, and none of the gang graffiti is visible from the main road. Being back there was scary! My dog and I took off running, so we'd look purposeful, but mostly so we could get out of there faster. Naturally, I tripped on a curb and tore up my knee pretty badly. So then my dog and I were running with blood pouring down my leg. I felt (extremely) foolish, but...I do keep thinking about the scene.
I want to include it in one of the books in my new series, Broad Street Gym, but...I'm still figuring out which female protagonist & plot it will fit best with. Maybe the third book. It doesn't really fit with the first two. Stay tuned! 🐕🏃🏻♀️📚
