N.L. Sharp Thanks for entering my Giveaway. I have been writing all my life, but my first published book TODAY I'M GOING FISHING WITH MY DAD came out in 1993. MIRACLES IN THE SNOW is especially dear to me because it is a story our dad told us (he just passed away this past April) and the first book my sister and I have worked on together. My sister drew the illustrations for the book. ENJOY!
N.L. Sharp The summer after my 5th grade year, my family moved from our farm in Western Nebraska to a small town in Eastern Nebraska. Although we were able to take a couple of our horses with us, not all of our horses were able to come with us, including my horse, Fury. The memory of moving across the state and leaving my horse behind is one that I will never forget.
N.L. Sharp I get inspired to write by sitting down at my desk, opening my writing program, rereading my writing from the previous day(s) and then starting to write. I use the writing program Scrivener and set a writing target each and every day. The program uses a bar that changes color from red to yellow to green as I write. It is very inspiring to see that bar change colors.
N.L. Sharp I am working on two series for middle grade readers both set in the imaginary town of Riley, Nebraska. One of the series in set in 1967 and is known as The Castle Kids series. KEEPING CAPTAIN is the first novel in that series. The second series is a contemporary series called as The Castle Cousins. Luke (Carly's best friend in KEEPING CAPTAIN) is the grandfather of the main characters in the Castle Cousins series.
N.L. Sharp Spend some time reading and writing each and every day. It doesn't have to be a large amount of time--even 15-20 minutes will make a difference. It is the consistency that's important.
N.L. Sharp This is a hard one, because there are so many great things about being a writer. Probably the thing that I love best about writing is that I get paid for doing the two things I love best to do: read and make up stories!
N.L. Sharp My goal is to write 500 words per day, minimum. When I am struggling to write creatively, then I use those 500 words to give myself a pep talk and / or to interview my characters. One or both of those usually works to get me back on track!
