Of course, in my world, the stranger would inevitably smell of sulfur.

This is always a difficult question. It’s like asking someone which food they would choose if they had to eat the same thing for the rest of their lives. If I did have to choose, though, I would pick Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. This novel is equal parts light and dark. At times, it makes me want to scream with laughter. And at others, it makes me cry. It is the quintessential black comedy and, though written decades ago, still modern.
